27 Jun 2005

Telefónica is reported to be studying opportunities for investment in China, including the possibility of acquiring businesses where it is assured of gaining control of the company. According to Telefónica chairman Cesar Alierta, the Spanish telco has been following the Chinese market with ‘a lot of interest’, although he confirmed that the timing and the selection of possible acquisition targets would take time to assess and would have to be right. ‘We have been looking at it for a year, but it is a very complex market’, he said.
