Bezeq fined NIS10 million

Israeli Communications Ministry has announced that it will fine Bezeq NIS10 million (USD2.2 million), in the latest stage of a long-standing dispute between the pair over the telco’s funding of satellite TV broadcaster YES. The ministry has restricted Bezeq’s investment in YES because of worries that its funding would allow YES to gain a stranglehold on the multi-channel TV market. In particular, its concerns centre on the fact that the broadcaster could force nascent cableco HOT to channel its investment into its TV operations rather than its telephony business, something that the Communications Ministry is keen to avoid, given that competition in the fixed line telephony market in Israel is extremely limited.
