TD-SCDMA fails to deliver

23 Jun 2005

China’s homegrown 3G standard TD-SCDMA has reportedly failed to perform well in government tests. Local newspaper China Daily says that phones running on the new technology have been used in trials to make voice calls and send text messages but did not support advanced services such as video downloads. The paper says the disappointing results could lead to a delay in issuing 3G licences in China and may ultimately mean that TD-SCDMA is abandoned altogether.
