Motorola to monitor and improve UMC network

21 Jun 2005

Ukrainian Mobile Communications (UMC) has selected Motorola for the managed optimisation of its GSM network in eight major cities. Motorola will continuously monitor and enhance UMC’s infrastructure in Kyiv, Donetsk, Lviv, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, Kharkiv, Simferopol and Lugansk for a three-year period, in addition to expanding its coverage. The US vendor will utilise its multi-vendor GSM Radio Access Network (RAN) Optimisation Service, which it successfully trialled with UMC earlier this year in the Kharkiv region. UMC says the pilot project resulted in a ‘remarkable’ improvement in network quality, with the number of dropped calls decreasing by 26% despite a marked rise in traffic levels.
