The National Regulatory Authority for Communications (ANRC) has reported that the number of internet connections in Romania increased by 92% in 2004. In its report, based on data from ISPs, the ANRC found that there were 980,364 internet subscribers at the end of the year, compared to 509,308 at the end of 2003. The increase was driven by a 121% increase in the number of ISPs, which rose to 515, up from 233; of these, 93 offered DSL services. Broadband access, including cable, represented 39% of all internet connections, a slight increase of one percentage point over the previous year.
