Ministry plans big changes to telecoms laws

20 Jun 2005

Argentine communications ministry SeCom has proposed wide-reaching modifications to the country’s telecoms laws, including changing the status of mobile telephony and internet access to ‘public services’, to make them more accountable to the regulator under quality control guidelines. Under the proposals, prices in both sectors would remain unregulated, but the services offered to users would be subject to greatly increased scrutiny. SeCom is expected to present a draft of the modified law before the end of this year.
