KPN is reportedly interested in acquiring the Austrian fixed line and cellular operator tele.ring. The press agency APA claims that the Dutch telco is one of four companies to have submitted a non-binding offer for tele.ring, which is being sold off by current owner Western Wireless International in preparation for its takeover by Alltel. The other three bidders are said to be the investment groups Permira, Apax and Novator. Another Austrian cellular operator, ONE, is also rumoured to be preparing an offer. tele.ring currently has around a million cellular subscribers, giving it a 12% share of Austria’s mobile market.
