According to the director of Angola’s National Institute of Communications Joao Beirao, wireless subscribers currently outnumber fixed line customers by ten to one. As it stands there are around a million wireless subscribers in the country, compared to just 100,000 land lines. Two wireless networks are in operation: state-run Movicel and Portugal Telecom-backed Unicel, while in the wireline arena Angola Telecom competes with newcomer Nexus.
