Hola CEO says government must not Leave Copaco Alone

14 Jun 2005

Paraguayan cellco Vox, which trades under the name Hola, has asked the government for assurances that there will be no favouritism given to the country’s new start up operator, a subsidiary of state-run fixed line operator Copaco. According to BNamericas, Hola CEO Marcelo Toyotoshi has specifically called for the state to ensure that Copaco pays the same taxes as its rivals and adheres to all requests made of it by regulator Conatel. Last week Copaco shelved the planned launch of its new GSM network from August until November 2005. It hopes to sign up more than 140,000 users and is launching with a network of 140 base stations, and investing around USD12 million – plus USD4 million on a complementary data network project.
