Regulator sidesteps debate over concession conversions

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has said it won’t be drawn into the contentious debate over concession conversions, saying merely that it is ready to take on any legal challenge from the country’s private telecom operators if they appear. Private operators are desperate to seek a resolution to the problem and have become increasingly frustrated at the regulator’s lack of action over concession conversions which they claim is preventing fair competition in the market. Adding to their woes, TOT Corp has confirmed it will not convert all its licences, claiming that in doing so it would impede government policy.
