VoIP overtakes ISDN

According to data released by the Japanese government, the number of voice over IP (VoIP) subscribers has overtaken those of ISDN services. At the end of March, the number of VoIP users totaled 8.3 million, up 57.2% year-on-year, with ISDN customers falling 7.5% to 7.98 million. The report also revealed that the total fixed line subscribers totaled 59.61 million at the same date, down 1%; this is the first time the figure has dropped below 60 million in ten years.
