Government to invest BRL12.5 million in digital TV

The Brazilian government has pledged to spend BRL12.5 million (US5.1 million) on the development of a national system for digital TV services. The system, which will be known as Sistema Brasileiro de TV Digital (SBTVD), will receive BRL9.5 million for research and BRL3 million for the purchase of transmission test equipment. The project is expected to begin in December.
