Softbank trials HSDPA

7 Jun 2005

BB Mobile, a subsidiary of Japanese ISP Softbank, has contracted Nortel Networks to conduct a trial of UMTS/HSDPA technology in the Saitama prefecture of Japan, the first HSDPA service in the country. The live field tests will be conducted over BB Mobile’s wireless network, using a trial licence in the 1.7GHz frequency band which was issued to Softbank on 30 May. HSDPA enables wireless data transmission of 14.4Mbps, 30 times faster than the existing commercially deployed wireless networks.
