TEM Colombia doubles capacity

6 Jun 2005

Telefónica Móviles Colombia, formerly BellSouth Colombia, doubled its network capacity in its first four months of new ownership, according to its president, Sergio Regueros. After being acquired by Spain’s Telefónica Móviles in late 2004, the CDMA-based operator has re-launched under the Movistar brand, and concentrated on boosting capacity in anticipation of substantially increasing its customer base, which rose by 400,000 to 3.7 million in 1Q 2005. Regueros said that the company had already invested more than the USD200 million originally planned for 2005, although he has not given a forecast for the eventual investment total for the year.
