The Japanese Embassy has confirmed the government’s plans to licence new operators in the mobile market, saying that three companies will be awarded concessions. Domestic ISPs Softbank and eAccess have expressed an interest in entering the sector, while IP Mobile is also reported to be looking to compete in the market. The government has not revealed when it will hold the licence auction, although it has hinted that it could be as early as next year.
