Nextel handed new concession

The Mexican wireless operator Nextel has been awarded a 20-year licence by the communications ministry to provide its trunking services in 212 municipalities nationwide. Nextel already offers digital radio services in 25 cities across the country, including Mexico City, León, Monterrey, Acapulco, San Lusi Potosí and Tijuana. According to BNamericas, the new concession covers the regions of Xalapa, Veracruz, Coatzacoalcos, Poza Rica and Córdoba. Nextel Mexico had 882,600 subscribers at the end of March, up from 702,900 a year earlier.
