TMN aims high in 3G market

2 Jun 2005

Portugal’s largest cellular operator TMN has revealed that it expects to have signed up one million 3G customers by the end of next year. The firm, which is wholly-owned by Portugal Telecom, has found that ARPU levels rise by around 20% when a customer migrates from 2G to 3G services and it is now beginning a pro-active strategy to encourage UMTS take-up. It says a broadening range of next-generation services and the falling cost of handsets will help attract 3G users. TMN, which plans to launch video sharing services later this month, expects data services to be contributing around 15% of total service revenues by the end of 2006, up from the current level of 11%.
