Vodafone’s Romanian, Czech cellco purchases finalised

1 Jun 2005

UK-based mobile giant Vodafone Group has completed the acquisition of Romania’s MobiFon and Czech-based Oskar Mobil. It acquired the two mobile operators via its wholly-owned subsidiary Vodafone International Holdings, which purchased 79% of the share capital of MobiFon to increase its direct and indirect stake to 99%, and 100% of Oskar. Canadian holding company TeleSystem International Wireless (TIW) agreed to sell both stakes to Vodafone in March this year for USD3.5 billion, with the condition that the UK company takes on USD950 million in existing debt. The deal gained EU approval earlier this month.
