China 3G before 2008?

Qiao Yunshan, the head of the Ministry of Information Industry’s (MII’s) telecom product and system division, says that China will have 3G services in operation before 2008. Qiao says that the MII has set up a USD145.8 million fund to boost the development of the Chinese mobile sector and that, as a result, UMTS technology has become a practical reality with some cellcos already announcing successful 3G tests.
