According to Malta’s Competitive and Communications Minister Censu Galea, the country’s telecoms sector generated a turnover of over MTL100 million in 2004, compared to MTL46 million the previous year. The figure is expected to continue to grow throughout 2005 thanks to an increase in investments in new technologies such as broadband. Galea said that the total number of broadband subscribers in the country grew to around 38,000 by the end of March 2005, while mobile customers reached around 315,000, a 78.5% penetration rate.
