The second GSM operator in Oman, Nawras, has announced that it has wrapped up an agreement with rival Oman Mobile to provide national roaming facilities. Nawras, a joint venture between Qatar’s Qtel, Denmark’s TDC and Omani partners, launched services in March this year and is committed to providing 96% coverage within five years. The roaming agreement follows a deal with Oman Mobile’s parent Omantel, under which Omantel will lease some capacity of its fibre-optic backbone network to Nawras for transmission.
