Government plans to re-issue 3G spectrum

23 May 2005

The Indonesian government has announced that it might re-issue 3G spectrum, after Chief Economics Minster Aburizal Bakrie claimed the process of awarding the two licences in the first tender was unfair. The government awarded 3G licences to Cyber Access Communications and Natrindo Telpon Seluler in 2003 and 2004 respectively. The first was awarded via a beauty contest while the second was awarded directly, which Bakrie claims was inconsistent. All existing mobile operators would be allowed to bid in a new tender.
