BASE takes on fixed providers with economy package

23 May 2005

Belgian mobile operator BASE has launched a new low-budget package, ‘BASE Economy Subscription’ featuring rock bottom tariffs for mobile-to-fixed calls. The launch, accompanied by a large scale marketing campaign, is aimed at providing direct competition to incumbent Belgacom’s wireline services, and includes a lower monthly subscription fee than Belgacom’s ‘Classic Line’ package as well as special discounts for over-60s and invalids.

BASE intends to follow up its new product with an offer bundling a broadband internet connection with a mobile subscription. Last week the company said it was in negotiations with ADSL suppliers, and was intending to ‘do away with the need for users to combine a broadband subscription with a fixed telephone line’.
