Paraguay’s fixed line incumbent Copaco will launch a tender for the supply of mobile handsets for its start-up cellular service within the next two weeks, according to local news sources. Copaco has yet to release a timetable for the rollout of the service, but plans to invest USD7 million in the GSM network with a view to signing up 140,000 subscribers in its first year. At the end of 2004 there were four mobile operators serving more than 1.6 million subscribers in Paraguay.
