Bulgarian telecoms market up by 11%

20 May 2005

Bulgarian telecoms authority the Communications Regulation Commission (CRC) reported today that the country’s telecoms market expanded by up to 11% in 2004, driven by an increased range of services being offered by operators, coupled with an ongoing push to open the sector up to further competition. The growth follows an increase of 10.7% in 2003, when the market’s overall value reached EUR1.1 billion. Former state monopoly the Bulgarian Telecommunications Company (BTC) has lost an estimated 11% of outgoing international fixed line call traffic to alternative providers.
