Ecuador’s state holding company Fondo de Solidaridad (FS) has launched a new tender to seek a management partner for its telecoms units Andinatel, Pacifictel and Telecsa. FS president Marcelo Arcos told BNamericas that a consultation period will run from June to July and bids will be accepted in August. The government expects to select the winning bidder at the end of December. The selection process will be handled by the United Nations in Geneva to ensure transparency. While fixed line operator Andinatel and its cellular subsidiary Telecsa are performing well, Pacifictel, which offers wireline services in the west of the country, has serious financial troubles. The government has already held two unsuccessful tenders in 2003 and 2004 to find administrative partners for its telecoms holdings.
