The Chinese government has revealed that it expects 3G services to be up and running in the country before 2008. A report from NewsEdge says the Ministry of Information Industry will publish its plan for the development of China’s 3G sector by the end of this year, although a timetable for the award of next-generation licences has still to be finalized. Minister of Information Wang Xudong is quoted as saying: “Over the past few years, some countries and regions issued 3G licenses to telecom operators. China will learn from their experiences.”
