Rostelecom contracts Alcatel for southern network upgrade

Russian long-distance operator Rostelecom has signed a contract with Alcatel for the modernisation of its network in southern Russia. Alcatel will deploy its 1626 Light Manager, 1678 Metro Core Connect (MCC) and Optical Multi-Service Node (OMSN) systems, which will allow Rostelecom to increase the reliability and efficiency of its network to deliver new broadband services such as triple play. The value of the deal was not disclosed. Rostelecom, which is preparing for the arrival of competition in the market, says the upgrade will be completed in the final quarter of this year.
