Telof to launch VoIP in unserved areas

State-owned Telecommunications Office (Telof) has revealed plans to launch voice-over-IP (VoIP) services in unserved rural areas of the Philippines. The company is a government entity, and therefore does not need a congressional franchise to offer VoIP, a decision which has angered telcos Globe and Smart, which are contesting the draft rules on the service.
