Uzbekistan’s leading mobile operator in terms of subscribers, Uzdunrobita, says it has begun work on the second phase of its network expansion programme. The cellco is installing around 400 new base stations in the current development stage. It had 337 stations at the end of last year. Uzdunrobita claimed 370,000 mobile users on 1 May 2005, up from 350,000 on 31 March. The company was founded in 1991 and holds licences to offer GSM and AMPS/D-AMPS services until 2016.
