Telecom extends mobile offer

13 May 2005

Telecom New Zealand has increased pressure on its only rival in the cellular market by extending its current discounted text messaging offer. The deal, under which Telecom Mobile subscribers receive 500 messages for a monthly fee of NZD10, will now run until the end of 2006 rather than December this year as originally announced. Telecom is trying to regain ground in New Zealand’s mobile market, which has been led by Vodafone since early 2003. At the end of 2004 Vodafone had 1.64 million active subscribers while Telecom had 1.35 million.
