Cisco handed major IP telephony deal

12 May 2005

UK-based airline British Airways (BA) has contracted Cisco Systems to provide an IP telephony network for 14,000 of its office and airport staff. Cisco claims the system will be the largest of its kind employed by any airline worldwide. BA hopes that the system will significantly reduce costs and improve productivity through the integration of all its voice and data communications onto a single network. The value of the deal has not been disclosed, but BA says that the new system will ‘pay for itself within two years’.
