Verizon Dominica, the Dominican Republic’s dominant telecoms operator, says that Nortel has completed the expansion and upgrade of its entire network to CDMA2000 1x technology. The cellco has also begun trials of Nortel’s EV-DO 3G solution in a number of regions. Formerly known as Compania Dominicana de Telefonos (Codetel), Verizon launched a national PCS-1900MHz network supplied by Lucent Technologies in the third quarter of 1999. Nortel has been working with Verizon Dominica for around ten years as main supplier for its wireline network.
