Chunghwa fast-tracking VoIP services, aiming for June launch

10 May 2005

Chunghwa Telecom has finalised the development of its VoIP software and has applied for an operating licence with a view to launching services over its HiNet ISP by the end of June. Chunghwa’s rush to launch the service is indicative of the fact that Taiwan’s leading telcos are finally waking up to the threat posed by internet telephony services, with close to two million people in the country now signed up to use the VoIP calling services of global P2P telco Skype.
