América Móvil not interested in Auna

10 May 2005

The Latin American mobile operator América Móvil has said it does not intend to make a bid for the Spanish telecoms group Auna, but it is planning on taking part in the country’s forthcoming wireless spectrum auctions. As Comms Update reported last week, the Mexican-based firm has signalled its interest in expanding its operations across the Atlantic to launch services in Spain, as well as continuing to develop its portfolio in Latin America. América Móvil has ruled itself out of making a bid for either the Auna group, which is Spain’s second largest telco behind the former monopolist Telefónica, or its mobile division Amena. It will, however, enter the bidding for 10MHz of mobile spectrum which is being sold off by the Spanish government.
