MTN spends ZAR10 million on corporate catchphrase

9 May 2005

South Africa-based mobile operator MTN has so far spent around ZAR10 million (USD1.67 million) on introducing a new corporate slogan, ‘Everywhere you go’, with costs escalating as it steps up its marketing campaign in several countries. The new motto is intended to reflect the international nature of MTN’s services, and replaces local marketing catchphrases in Nigeria, Uganda, Cameroon, Rwanda and Swaziland. MTN’s promotional efforts are aimed at salvaging what it can from its recent disappointment in failing to acquire pan-African cellco Celtel. Kuwaiti wireless group MTC-Vodafone finalized its takeover of Celtel earlier this month after an unsuccessful attempt by MTN to block the deal.
