Saudis get DSL-in-the-sky

The French equipment supplier Alcatel says it has signed an agreement with the Almisehal Group in Saudi Arabia for the provision of a two-way satellite broadband system. Alcatel is supplying its ‘DSL-in-the-sky’ broadband access satellite gateway and associated terminal equipment to Almisehal, which is launching services on behalf of the Kingdom’s dominant telco STC. The offering will provide broadband applications such as internet access, virtual private networks and e-learning services to schools via satellite links. The financial details of the deal were not given.
