Mobile subscribers up 16.7% in Q1; internet users report strong growth

According to the Uzbek Agency for Informatisation and Communication, the number of mobile users in the country reached 635,000 at the end of March, up 16.7% quarter-on-quarter. The leading operator Uzdunrobita had an estimated base of 350,000 at that date.

Meanwhile, the Agency also said that the popularity of the internet continues to grow with Uzbekistan reporting 715,270 users at the end of the first quarter, up 40% on the corresponding period of 2004. Data transfer networks’ numbers were also up 6% at 552 and the number of internet access points rose 15% to 433.
