The US-based equipment supplier UTStarcom has won a contract to provide an IP-based digital subscriber line multiplexer (DSLAM) solution to the Bolivian telecoms co-operative Cotel. Cotel, which currently operates local telephony networks in the capital city La Paz, plans to launch broadband DSL services across Bolivia, with future offerings including voice-over-IP and TV-over-IP services. There are estimated to be only around 270,000 internet users in Bolivia, a country with a population of over nine million.
