Marconi adds jobs at Australian unit

3 May 2005

Marconi Australia has increased its staff numbers by around 30% in the past eight months, on the back of two large contracts signed with Telstra and Primus. The hiring programme, which has taken Marconi’s total Australian staff to 190, contrasts the situation at Marconi’s UK operation, where the company says it may dispose of 2,000 jobs, after it failed to be included in the group of eight suppliers selected for BT’s 21st Century Network project. Marconi’s AUD300 million contract with Telstra covers the access and transport layers of the telco’s core network.
