KDDI posts record earnings for Q1

KDDI has reported a net profit of JPY200.5 billion (USD1.89 billion) for the first quarter of 2005, up 71.4% on the figure for the same period last year. The company said earnings were boosted by its mobile service au, but has forecast a cautious outlook for the full year 2005, due to an expected increase in costs for its fixed line business. Consolidated operating profit grew by 1.4% to JPY296 billion (USD2.79 billion), with au’s operating profit growing by 14% to JPY273.1.

au reported 19.54 million subscribers at the end of March, up from 16.96 million the previous year. Of the total, 3.25 million were CDMA 1X EV-DO subscribers, 14.68 million were CDMA 1X RTT and 1.61 million were cdmaOne customers. Blended monthly ARPU at the cellco stood at JPY7,170 at the same date, blended MoU reached 166 and blended churn stood at 1.44%. TU-KA Group reported 3.59 million subscribers at the same date, while the company’s mobile internet arm EZweb had 18.26 million users. KDDI’s fixed line arm had 8.7 million local telephony subscribers to its MYLINE service, 14.9 million long distance customers and 8.28 million international users. Its internet arm Dion service claimed 2.8 million customers, of which 1.49 million were ADSL users.
