Swisscom partners Alcatel for triple play launch

28 Apr 2005

Switzerland’s dominant fixed line operator Swisscom has selected Alcatel to deliver enhanced ‘triple play’ broadband-based services to its domestic customers, with a view to launching IPTV services by the second half of 2005. Under the terms of the new contract, Alcatel will supply Swisscom with a VDSL-enabled broadband access network which uses its intelligent services access manager (ISAM) platform. The France-based technology provider is the existing sole supplier of Swisscom’s broadband network. As of year-end 2004, Swisscom reported 802,000 DSL customers, 490,000 of which are retail subscribers to its Bluewin service and 312,000 customers of other ISPs.
