Hi3G and Vodafone award joint 3G network expansion contract

3G Infrastructure Services (3GIS), the UMTS network joint venture between cellcos Hi3G Access and Vodafone Sweden, has signed a contract extension with Nokia to expand the company’s W-CDMA infrastructure. 3GIS, the world’s first shared UMTS network, intends to provide Hi3G and Vodafone with 3G coverage of 70% of the Swedish population; both companies launched commercial 3G services in 2003-04.
