Q-Telecom has rivals in its sights

20 Apr 2005

Greece’s youngest and smallest cellco Q-Telecom says it is closing the gap on its larger rivals after it ended the first quarter of 2005 with 862,588 fixed and mobile customers. Q-Telecom was awarded a GSM-1800 licence in June 2001 and launched the following year. It also offers fixed line services but its strategic focus is on the mobile market and in particular the pre-paid segment; of the company’s total customer base it said 761,236 were pre-paid mobile users. Q-Telecom is to invest around USD25 million in its services in 2005 and expects to pass the one million subscriber mark before year-end. The cellco could reach that milestone considerably sooner if the Greek regulator EETT manages to iron out problems currently hindering the implementation of mobile number portability.
