Entel’s profits up 30%, driven by mobile and broadband expansion

20 Apr 2005

Chilean telco Entel posted net income of CLP19 billion (USD32.8 million) for the three months to 31 March, an increase of more than 30% over the corresponding period of 2004. Total revenues were up 4%, mostly driven by its mobile division, Entel PCS, which saw turnover rise by 20% in the three-month period. The company’s local telephony revenues, domestic long-distance call traffic and number of dial-up internet connections all fell, but net additions to ADSL and wireless broadband services were up 34% year-on-year. Entel reported 61,658 broadband customers at the end of March.
