Vodafone wants unique number trials suspended

19 Apr 2005

Vodafone Italy has asked the Ministero delle Comunicazioni (MdC) to suspend trials of ‘unique numeration’ – the process of giving users one phone number for both their fixed and mobile services – because it says that the country’s cellcos have not been consulted on the implementation of the system, according to Telecom Paper. As many as 3,000 users are trialling the service as part of a pilot scheme scheduled to run to the end of the year, but Vodafone says that the technical and operational details of the system need to be thoroughly discussed before any further trials take place.
