CTC won’t expand fixed network

Telefónica CTC Chile says it does not see any incentive to invest in the expansion of its fixed line telephony infrastructure, according to a report in BNamericas. CEO Claudio Muñoz is quoted as saying that under current regulatory conditions CTC does not consider there to be any rewards available for telcos rolling out new mainlines in Chile, which currently has a teledensity of around 20%. He added, however, that the company would stick to its plan to invest USD150 million this year, with the bulk of the expenditure earmarked for the expansion of broadband services.
