VTR and Metropolis merger completed

15 Apr 2005

Chilean telephone and cable operators VTR GlobalCom and Metropolis announced yesterday that they have completed a merger process, forming a new company which will operate under the VTR name.

VTR entered the Chilean telecoms market in 1998 when it began providing telephony services over its cable TV networks. By the end of 2001 it was the country’s second largest local telephony provider and has remained so ever since. Earlier this week it reported that it had installed 40% more residential broadband connections in March 2005 than in the corresponding month of 2004, bringing its consumer broadband subscriber base to 190,000.
