Telecom Italia has announced that it plans to invest EUR350 million by 2007 on the expansion of its broadband services in France. The Italian telco, which recently paid EUR266 million to acquire the French ISP Liberty Surf from Tiscali, says it wants to have broadband networks covering almost half the population by 2007. Telecom Italia already had around 45,000 internet customers in France via its Alice France subsidiary, and the purchase of Liberty Surf has added another 160,000. The telco says the EUR350 million investment in France is part of a wider EUR800 million plan to expand its international broadband internet business, which includes operations in Germany and the Netherlands.
