Esat BT becomes BT Ireland

13 Apr 2005

BT Group’s Irish fixed line operator Esat BT has been rebranded as BT Ireland, dropping the ‘Esat’ part of its name five years after the UK heavyweight bought Denis O’Brien’s Esat Telecom venture for EUR2.5 billion. The company was re-branded Esat BT in 2002, although a spokeswoman for the telco said it was always the intention to switch the name eventually. BT Ireland claims to be the country’s leading provider of networked IT services, with a customer base that includes more than 600 of the Ireland’s biggest companies. To mark the name change the telco is offering half price landline rental to residential customers signing up for bundled fixed line telephony and broadband services.
